Back in January, I wrote about the Hugglepod I bought for my son for Christmas. You can read that post here. Well, I loved the quality of that Hugglepod so much that I found myself searching HearthSong’s website in search of other unique items my son would enjoy and I stumbled across this Aquaglow Jellyfish Hideaway from HearthSong.

My son loves all animals and he’s been taking frequent visits to our local aquarium in Pittsburgh, PA. I knew he’d love this Jellyfish Hideaway. All the reviews I found on Amazon were very positive but I couldn’t find too many other reviews through Google about the quality of the product or whether younger kids really used it for creative play.

Regardless, I wanted my son to have it. Plus, I knew it’d go great with the design of his new toddler room. This item ships super quick and I was so excited to have my husband install it. I wasn’t sure how to hang it up on the ceiling and the directions to suggest any specific way. I knew my almost three-year-old would find a way to pull on the tentacles so I wanted it safely hanging from the ceiling so it wouldn’t pull down our drywall on the ceiling. A quick 10 minute trip to Lowe’s and we had the screw we needed to attach it to a beam.

As soon as we turned off the lights, he went into the hideaway, running and screaming. The hideaway is made of a beautiful light blue lace-like fabric that is completely see-through. He enjoys closing the ‘door’ of the hideaway and feeling like he’s in there by himself. On his first night having it turned on, he grabbed his ladder and a book and read to himself for half an hour. He would call out, “Mommy, I’m in my jellyfish!”

He’s especially entertained by the tentacles that hang down. As I expected, he has been pulling on them a bit out of curiosity but so far, no rips or tears and our ceiling is still holding up just fine.

Aren’t those tentacles awesome? The light green jellyfish cap is all one piece and it’s so simple to put together. It literally takes five minutes or less to string the lights through the netting. After that, place the green cap over the top of the netting and then hang it up. If you have the correct screw on hand, you’re looking at a 10 minute set up from start to finish.  This is perfect for me because I dread assembling toys!  I love that you can take this hideaway outside and I plan to hang it from our tree outside this summer so he can enjoy hours of pretend play in the warmth of the sun. You don’t have to drill holes in your ceiling if you don’t want to. You can hang it like a canopy over their bed, attach it with some strong tape or possibly even tack it. If your kids aren’t as young as mine, you probably don’t have to worry about them ripping it down.

This hideaway comes with an on/off switch which makes it super simple to turn on and off without worrying about pulling a cord out of the outlet routinely. My son LOVES it, especially at night when it illuminates his room in blue! So far, he’s been a mermaid, a jellyfish, a fish and a sea captain under those tentacles and he’s had so much fun!

It sounds like this would be perfect for their room! I love how calming the room feels when the Jellyfish Hideaway is lit. It’s relaxing and my son can easily fall asleep or focus on reading when it’s on. Good luck!
