Hi! I’m Debra Richardson, a part-time blogger, full-time teacher, Staff Sgt. with the Army Reserves, wife and mommy. As the title states, I am an overachiever, which is not always a good thing. I’ve had to work hard (and still do!) on ensuring that I don’t over-commit myself to projects, work or my friends and family. If you share my love for commitment and projects, then you’re at the right place!
I write on parenting, teaching, living the Army lifestyle and photography. On occassion, I write about stuff that doesn’t fit into those categories, because I find them very interesting and/or incredibly beneficial to my readers.
My goal is to create insightful, relevant content that is entertaining, educational and applicable for both your personal and professional life.
I typically post three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday but sometimes I post more frequently. To ensure you don’t miss my newest posts, you can subscribe via e-mail and you can unsubscribe at any time.
I was raised in the coal fields of West Virginia (literally) and I joined the Army at the young age of 17. I originally enlisted as a cook and then less than a year after my training, I was recruited over to become a public affairs specialist. The Army has spent a lot of time and money training me to be a professional in this field and I am very grateful for this opportunity. I’ve been serving since 2004.
I deployed to Afghanistan, to support the Special Operations community, in 2009. I wish I would have had a blog then…the stories and experiences I could have shared. My husband is also in the military and his unit, Field Artillery, was scheduled to deploy two months after my year in Afghanistan. We were young, newly married and fresh out of college so I volunteered to deploy with his unit in order to be near him. Alas, I spent two straight years in the desert…time well spent.
I have a BA in English Education and I’ve spent the majority of my adult life working with at-risk teens. While I love and immensely enjoy this career field, I’m also very interested in marketing and communications. I am currently working to finish my MS in Integrated Marketing and Communications. I hope to be a consultant for small businesses, bloggers, and non-profits.
I have been with my husband for 9 years now and we’ve been married for 5. We have an active toddler, Jace and our second son is due March 1, 2016! We live in West Virginia but who knows how long we’ll stay. My husband is active Army and we know that soldier’s don’t have the privelege of living in one location for too long. Of course, we also live with our adopted dog (child) Sasha, two goldfish and a betta.
In my free time, I enjoy photography, running, cooking and reading.
